Shifting Our Focus
Last week we took our income down to $0. We ended the full-time contract with our US client, and are going all-in on Fair Remote. Our savings should last us twelve months, so let's hope for the best. 🤞
Since we have so much time now, we started planning for the future. While brainstorming if we're on the right track, we figured that the real pain is not finding remote opportunities. There are dozens of other platforms out there that have solved this problem. Just type remote job boards in your favorite search engine. The hard part is identifying the companies that have a healthy work culture built around their people. I'm not saying the products and the customers should be neglected. Not at all. They should be in the focus area but not occupy it fully.
In a company, each person helps the revenue growth. Yet, there are so many businesses out there where the founders take the majority of profit without compensating everybody else because they consider it's their entire merit. Dan Price, the CEO of Gravity Payments, puts it perfectly in a recent tweet.
There's no such thing as a self-made millionaire.
I built a business from scratch. But my company is only worth millions because of our employees.
When you believe "I built it all," greed naturally follows. When you see you're just part of a team, it's easier to spread the wealth.
We don't want to become a platform that accepts any company just because it is remote-friendly. If a company offers a great opportunity but has a bad work culture, we would rather have you look elsewhere than become frustrated in a couple of months.
We strive for a better remote work environment. Some businesses struggle to make work more enjoyable by being transparent, giving autonomy, and not offering badges of honor to people working extra hours. The job is just an individual part, whereas the business is the bigger picture. These are the reasons we decided to shift our focus from job posts to company cultures instead.
In the upcoming months, we will contact multiple companies that we would love to work with and see if they give us the green light to promote them on our platform. Afterward, we'll offer other companies the chance to be promoted and announce their job openings on Fair Remote.
We want this to become a place where entrepreneurs, small businesses, and tech giants can be inspired by a handful of companies that shaped a work culture with the people amid everything else.
